TERMS OF REFERENCE - SPFS PHASE I - CROP INTENSIFICATION

(FAO ADVISORY TECHNICAL SERVICES (ATS)/FAO BACKSTOPPING)

Agronomist

Duration: One mission of ....... weeks is foreseen for FAO technical staff from ......... (name of FAO Regional Office) or FAO Headquarters to provide specific technical inputs on crop production systems.

Timing of mission: Upon approval of the programme and recruitment of national consultants and TCDC consultant.

Job Description:

The mission will be carried out in consultation with concerned FAO Representative and in close cooperation with the National Programme Coordinator (NPC). The Officer will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • visit the pilot sites, and together with the NPC and national staff, review the production technologies being proposed/demonstrated for .................. (agricultural) production, and propose relevant training programmes for technical staff and farmers;
  • review programme implementation plan; initiate corrective measures, if necessary; prepare recommendations for further improvement of crop production systems;
  • prepare recommendations on crop demonstrations to be carried out in farmers' fields;
  • assist in the preparation of technical staff training, and advise field staff on crop production technologies to be demonstrated;
  • participate in the first technical staff training and workshops;
  • advise on monitoring and evaluation, and impact assessment activities;
  • advise on the curriculum of the ............ (Integrated Farmers' Field Schools) and introduce sections on ......... production;
  • advise and prepare the terms of reference and work plan for the TCDC specialist in agronomy, if required;
  • prepare a mission report.

Qualifications:

Suitably qualified FAO staff member(s).
