TERMS OF REFERENCE - SPFS PHASE I - CROP INTENSIFICATION

(FAO ADVISORY TECHNICAL SERVICES (ATS)/FAO BACKSTOPPING)

Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Specialist

Duration: One mission of two weeks is foreseen for FAO Technical Staff from ......... (name of FAO Regional Office) or FAO Headquarters to provide specific technical inputs in integrated pest management.

Timing of mission: Upon approval of the project and recruitment of national consultants and TCDC consultant.

Job Description:

The mission will be carried out in consultation with concerned FAO Representative and in close cooperation with the National Programme Coordinator (NPC). The Officer will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • review the implementation plan and the proposed pest control measures, as well as training activities for technical staff and farmers; prepare recommendations for further improvement;
  • prepare specific recommendations on pest control measures to be demonstrated in farmers' fields, giving due attention to biological control; advise on data collection for monitoring the impact of improved pest control methods on crop production and farmers' income;
  • promote concepts of biological control among technical staff of the ministry and farmers; assist in the preparation of technical staff training, and advise field staff on the application of Integrated Pest Management approach for efficient control of pests;
  • participate in the technical staff training and workshops;
  • advise on the curriculum of Farmers Field Schools, with emphasis on IPM approach for control of crop pests;
  • advise and help prepare the TOR and work plan for the TCDC expert in agronomy;
  • prepare a mission report.

Qualifications:

Suitably qualified FAO staff member(s).
