Gu 2015 Rainfall Performance

The GU 2015 rainy season which started off early in many parts of the country in the third dekad (period of ten days) of March and continued to spread spatially in the first and second dekads of April has come to an end. The season was generally good in most parts of the country, with many places recording normal to above normal rains. The good rains led to improved water availability and favorable soil moisture conditions for both crop and pasture growth. However some parts of the country experienced floods, displacement of people, destruction of property and infrastructure and loss of livestock. The rains ended early in the south and central parts of the country – a cause for concern in the agriculture and livestock sectors.

SWALIM has prepared the Gu 2015 Rainfall Performance Bulletin, an analysis of the rainfall performance that is produced at the end of the significant rainfall seasons in Somalia, which provides a comprehensive assessment of the season's rainfall performance and impact. The bulletin analyses the specific performance of the rainfall during Gu 2015, for different parts of Somalia in comparison to the long term averages. The bulletin also provides information on flood incidents during the season in the southern parts of the country and the subsequent displacements and flooded cropland.
